Gateway Theatre, in collaboration with the City of Richmond, has engaged artist Carmen Chan to transform our Gilbert Road-facing wall into a colourful, uplifting artistic piece embodying our theatre and our community. Carmen's mural work begins this month. Carmen Chan is a visual artist specializing in watercolour and mural paintings with over 15 years training in Chinese brush painting. Carmen's watercolour paintings have been exhibited at the Surrey Art Gallery, Earls Restaurants and 100 Braid st studios. She painted her first solo mural in 2019 for Vancouver Mural Festival and since then have painted other public murals during the Pandemic to inspire hope and joy and to support local small businesses. Carmen's art practice is about creating a calming and enjoyable painting process. She is the creator of the Morning tea and Watercolour painting class where she inspires students to paint on Saturday mornings as a way to promote self care and self reflection. Learn more at
