Sensory Friendly Acting
兒童秋冬季戲劇課程 • 儿童秋冬季戏剧课程

Allow your child to open their imaginations and explore how to use their bodies and voices to create characters and tell stories.

We are excited to offer sensory friendly acting classes to empower neurodivergent youth including but not limited to youths with Autism, Asperger syndrome, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and other sensory processing and developmental divergence. These classes are intended to be online so students can learn and express themselves in the comfort of their own home, potentially reducing stimuli. In this class, students will work collaboratively, find a sense of belonging in an ensemble, develop social and communication skills, and build confidence in their own abilities.

All abilities are welcomed and no previous experience is required! Our experienced instructors will provide a safe, inclusive space and adapt to each student to ensure they are able to grow and learn from where they are. If you would like to learn more about the class, please contact Ruth McIntosh, Education Manager at 604-247-4975 or rmcintosh@gatewaytheatre.com.

"Gateway was pivotal in helping my child gain confidence. I highly recommend for kids who are shy or who struggle with social communication." - Academy Parent

About the Instructor

Malissa Palliyaguru (she, her, hers)
Malissa is an actor, choreographer, singer and performing arts educator, and is very happy to be teaching at Gateway Academy for the first time! She has performed across BC, as well as overseas, in musicals, operas, and theatre productions and has spent the last 10 years teaching community theatre and dance to children and adults from all walks of life. Malissa is a firm believer in the powerful and transformative nature of theatre - where everyone's differences are celebrated and accepted in a supportive, inclusive, accessible, and exciting community where everyone has a voice that deserves the space to be heard.

Financial Support
Gateway Academy believes in providing access to theatre arts training, regardless of financial means. If your family is experiencing temporary financial hardship, please apply to our bursary program generously supported by Wynford Strata Management.
