The show must go on… but what does it actually take? Besides the artists performing on stage, there are many roles happening behind the scenes that are crucial in operating a theatre to put on shows for the community.
If you are a secondary school teacher looking to broaden your students’ horizons about a career in the performing arts, inquire about our Secondary School Outreach program today! From backstage technicians to arts marketers to sound and lighting designers, students will discover an array of fulfilling professional opportunities in the performing arts.
Each year our Secondary School Outreach program offers 120 secondary school students free (yes, FREE!) access to a unique arts education opportunity. As the only professional theatre in Richmond, being accessible to Richmond youths is vital to us. We believe young people are the foundation and future of the performing arts, both as makers and as audience members.
In the program, students will get the unique opportunity to:
- Learn about different career opportunities from performing artists and designers, and theatre staff
- Go on a behind-the-scenes venue tour of Gateway Theatre
- Engage in a curriculum-linked workshop led by artist educators
- Watch it all come together and experience an artistic offering in-person
