Alyson is a multidisciplinary performance artist with the privilege of creating and playing in Vancouver, on the unceeded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. Alyson is a graduate of Studio 58 as of last spring, where she found both her craft and community. She had the honour last season of making her Gateway debut in the ensemble of Cinderella and is thrilled to be back to the familiar space, now teaching for the first time. She is so excited to encourage joy through her teaching practice and hopes the joy will always remain.

Joscelyne is very excited to join Gateway as an Academy teacher this year. Originally from Victoria, she moved to Vancouver 4 years ago to finish her Bachelor’s degree and work professionally in theatre. She is not just a performer but a costume designer, composer, nanny and princess as well! Joscelyne is very excited to be able to teach, grow and revel in artistic creativity with her students.

Daniela is a musical theatre artist and instructor and is teaching at Gateway Academy for the first time. Daniela is from Argentina, where she got her degree in Musical Theatre. She moved to Los Angeles in 2017 and has performed in many shows including Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, Sister Act, among others. Daniela believes that theatre is a safe space for everyone to express themselves, have fun, and stay connected to our inner child.

Bill is a musician, songwriter, musical theatre accompanist, and is teaching at Gateway Academy for the 3rd time. Bill has an Education Degree from UBC, and has played piano in the orchestra and for rehearsals for the Gateway Theatre’s Thouroughly Modern Millie, and Sound Of Music. Bill thinks everyone should sing and dance all the time!

Quinn is a theatre artist, vocalist and instructor and has taught at Gateway for 4 years. Quinn has worked as performer internationally and in Canada, most recently as a vocalist and actor at Shanghai Disney Resort and Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi. She is a graduate of the Theatre Arts program at Studio 58. Quinn believes strongly in the power of storytelling through music and is passionate about helping students find their voice and believe in themselves!

Kaleigh is an actor, writer, comedian and teacher and is teaching/assisting at Gateway Theatre for the first time! Kaleigh graduated from University of Manitoba with a degree in Theatre & Psychology, followed by a degree in Education at UBC. She has performed in Winnipeg Fringe, London UK, as well as performs improv with Second City. Kaleigh has been working in the film industry and teaching for the last 5 years. Kaleigh believes in play based learning, humour and inclusion. She believes in authentic storytelling and strives to provide a bridge between theatre and all communities.

Avrel is currently a student at McGill University studying literature. She is a great theatre lover who is returning to Gateway after holding the position of Programs Assistant two years ago! In the past, Avrel has worked at the Vancouver Arts Club as an Education Outreach Intern and has stage managed for McGill student theatre productions. Avrel is continuously inspired by the Academy Students’ creativity and openness. She is excited to work with Gateway again this summer!

Sara is new to Gateway and is so excited to be spending her summer as the Programs Assistant. Sara is a recent graduate of the Canadian College of Performing Arts where she gained a passion for theatre both onstage and behind the scenes. Favourite credits include Little Becky Two Shoes in Urinetown and Lou in I Hope My Heart Burns First. When not doing theatre Sara enjoys going to the catfe and painting. Sara is very passionate about how theatre fosters understanding in its individual and universal communities and looks forward to a fruitful summer here at Gateway.

Dylan is an accompanist that is thrilled to be joining Gateway Academy for the first time. She first started in theatre when she was 5 years old, and has been working in it ever since! She has studied voice in both classical and musical theatre contexts, and has music directed a wide range of shows over the years, in addition to teaching private students both voice and piano. Dylan believes that theatre is an act of joy, and cannot wait to help Gateway’s students find that joy for themselves!

James’ professional training included Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Modern, Contemporary, Hip Hop/Commercial, Musical Theatre, Singing and Acting at the world renowned Bird College – Conservatoire for dance and musical theatre in London, England. At Bird he received a 1st Class (Hons) degree in Professional Dance and Musical Theatre. During his training he performed in 9 to 5, Sister Act and 1984 and has performed on live television as a backing dancer and soloist for different artists and programs. James moved to Vancouver in 2019 and found his love for teaching. James believe that theatre is a great way to develop confidence, structure, and self discipline – all while laughing and having fun at the same time.

Renee is a Filipino opera singer and producer, and the current Education Manager for Education at Gateway Theatre. She has performed across the Philippines, the UK, and Europe and is an active collaborator in the music and theatre communities in Canada. Renee believes that the arts are a place where everyone should feel like they belong. On non-rainy days, she zooms around Richmond on her e-scooter!

Peter composes, directs, teaches, improvises, and performs all over Metro Vancouver. When he’s not teaching K-7 music in West Van, you’ll find him collaborating on new musicals, music directing for local productions, performance and audition coaching, and never too far from a piano. Past productions include Dear Evan Hansen (Laughing Matters Theatre), 9 to 5: The Musical (Capilano University), and the Ovation nominated 2019 Vancouver Fringe hit, Amélie (West Moon Theatre). Peter holds degrees in education and music composition, and secretly wishes everyone sang their feelings more often, words optional!

Manami immigrated from Tokyo Japan to pursue her dream of becoming a Theatre artist in North America. She’s a graduate of Studio 58 and for the past three decades she’s been building her career as an actor, playwright, instructor, interpreter/translator, dramaturge and director. Manami has worked with companies across Canada and most recently performed in Courage Now, a play she wrote at Firehall Arts Centre and Hiro Kanagawa’s Forgiveness co-produced by Arts Club and Theatre Calgary. Manami is the Director of Applied Theatre at Presentation House Theatre and passionate about teaching students of all ages the magic of theatre making, acting, storytelling and collaborative process.

Isabella is a Vancouver based performer, working and playing on the unceeded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. After receiving her Bachelors of Music from the University of British Columbia, she has performed in musicals, opera, and theatre in BC, New York, and Europe, while working as a choreographer and vocal coach. An interdisciplinary artist, Isabella is always excited to connect the worlds of theatre, music, dance and physical storytelling. She is thrilled to be supporting youth who are passionate about musical theatre, and is always excited to support young artists in finding their own voice.

Andrii Krupnyk is a theatre practitioner, actor, director, and acting coach, teaching at Gateway Theatre for the first time. He is a graduate of The Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute in Moscow and brings over a decade of professional experience in repertory theatre, along with five years of teaching expertise. As a performer, Andrii has played more than 20 roles, and as a director, he has staged eight productions. Currently, he is the founder and artistic director of The Horseradish Theatre in Vancouver. His teaching philosophy follows Stanislavsky’s principle: break down the complex into the simple, make the simple familiar, and turn the familiar into the beautiful.

Sophia is an actor, musician, educator and administrator originally from St. John’s, Newfoundland. Sophia has been involved in the arts for as long as she can remember! She holds a BFA in Theatre from the University of Victoria, and has performed across Western Canada. She has worked in theatre in a variety of roles, including as an instructor, marketer, and box office clerk. Sophia is passionate about arts education and is thrilled to help foster a safe space for young people to learn and grow.

我們的課程致力於因材施教。因為學生來自不同的背景和培訓領域,分配角色是為了讓您可以發展您暫時還沒有的技能。對於某些人來說,這可能意味著更多的文字工作;對於其他人來說,這可能意味著更多的編舞,而對於另外一些人來說,可能是擔任合唱等。如果我們給你的是你已經熟練的工作,那您就無法有新的收穫了!
學生在同一級別的班級連續學習兩到三年是很常見的。我們的導師了解並重視課堂內不同技能水平的教學;因此,材料的教授是視學生程度而定的。這樣的方式還為更有經驗的學生提供了一個機會,讓他們充當新學生的小導師。有時,與他人分享您的知識和熱情,是最好的學習方式!

要的。音樂劇學生必須穿舞鞋(爵士鞋或芭蕾舞鞋)上課,因為它們是在劇場地板上安全舒適地學習動作和編舞的最佳穿著。所有學生都必須穿著方便運動的衣服(請不要穿牛仔褲!),並帶上活頁夾和鉛筆——演員學習技藝必備的工具!
