About Wailele Wai Wai
We are a Hawaiian Hula Dance group that started in 2006 in Vancouver, BC.
Our group is called “Wailele Wai Wai,” which means “a waterfall that flows endlessly.”
This name symbolizes our commitment to growing continuously as individuals and enriching our lives and the lives of those around us.
We specialize in performing contemporary Hawaiian hula, using hand and arm movements and rhythmic patterns to tell stories.
Our main goal is to embody the Aloha Spirit and spread love and happiness through our performances.

Hawaiian Singer
Risa Takahashi performs both classical and Hawaiian music in Vancouver. Risa has studied Hawaiian culture, history, and language for many years. During her performances, Risa shares the stories and history behind the songs with the audience. Her shows are filled with knowledge about ongoing issues in Hawai’i, and Risa hopes to continue being an ambassador for Hawai’i. Through her performances, everyone feels like they have travelled to Hawai’i.

Japanese Classical Dancer
Yukiko Ashida (Nishikawa Yosetsu / Japanese Dancer of Nishikawa School Stage Name)
In January 2016, Yukiko Ashida started learning Japanese traditional dance by joining Satsuki-kai through an acquaintance’s introduction. She began studying under the guidance of Master Kayo Nishikawa of the Nishikawa School of Japanese Dance. In 2023, Yukiko was honoured to be permitted to use the Nishikawa surname within the Nishikawa School of Japanese Dance, thanks to the recommendation of her Master, Kayo Nishikawa. She received the character “Yo” from her Master, resulting in her stage name becoming Yosetsu. Currently, she is working towards obtaining a Master’s License of the Nishikawa School in Japanese traditional dance.
Yurie Kaneko
Yurie Kaneko
Flamenco Dancer
Yurie Kaneko started learning flamenco dance at Centro Flamenco in 2007. Yurie was guided by Rosario Ancer and the late Victor Kolstee. Yurie has been a regular dancer and teacher for Flamenco Rosario since her first performance in 2016, after graduating from Flamenco Rosario’s Professional Training Program. In 2022, Yurie won the mentee position of Flamenco Rosario’s Creative Residency with artist-in-residence, Sara Jiménez. Later that year, she spent a few months in Sevilla, Spain, to further her development as an independent flamenco dancer. Yurie continues to teach and pursue her artistic journey, exploring the possibilities within flamenco.
