Musical Theatre Sessional & Year-Long

PUBLIC REGISTRATION OPENS MARCH 4, 2025!

Do it all—sing, dance, and act!

Whether your child is shy or outgoing, Gateway Academy classes provide performance and life skills for youths to express themselves confidently. In our musical theatre classes, students become well-rounded performers while being immersed in the world of musicals. Young performers build confidence as they command the stage, exploring vocal techniques, choreography, and expressing lyrics musically and dramatically. Our students get the unique opportunity to experience training inside a professional theatre in a safe and supportive environment. In addition, Gateway students are given exclusive access to some of our Mainstage show rehearsals and ticket discounts for Academy families!

Musical Theatre Sessional Classes

Sessional classes are the perfect intro to our musical theatre classes at Gateway Theatre. At the culmination of each session, our classes dazzle with an Open Studio experience. We extend a warm invitation to all parents/guardians to see firsthand the skills they’ve been working on and even participate in the excitement!

Musical Theatre Intro

Through each 12 week session, Musical Theatre Intro students (ages 6-7) will sing, dance, act and have fun! Students of this class will be introduced to skills needed to perform in a musical in a joyful and creative environment. At the end of the session, the class will culminate in an interactive Open Studio experience, where family and friends get to participate in the warm-ups and skill-building theatre activities the class does each week. Students will also share a short song, scene, or choreography.

Musical Theatre Year-Long Classes

Musical Theatre A

Musical Theatre A is a year-long weekly class for students ages 8-10 providing a process-focused training environment that balances rigor and play!

The first half of the year focuses on building ensemble, gaining familiarity and practice of skills, and advancing theatre learning through material and small projects; in December, each class will host an Open Studio for a portion of their last class before the holiday break, sharing the skills they have learned – students and guests actively participate together!

In the second half of the year, skill development is augmented as students rehearse a story/play/musical in preparation of their year-end presentation. Students are assigned roles; they learn material and explore; work at home is expected, and extra attention to attendance is expected.

In April, students present their work in an informal, in-studio presentation, which is open to invited guests.

Musical Theatre Skills

New this year! Musical Theatre Skills is a year-long weekly class, designed for students ages 11-18 with all levels of experience who are interested in developing their theatrical toolbox.

The first half of the year will focus on ensemble and skill-building; in the second half of the year, students will apply what they’ve learned by rehearsing a short musical.

The year will culminate in an informal presentation where students present the show without any added production elements (lights, costumes, etc). This will allow students to focus primarily on developing skills and gaining confidence, with a rigorous rehearsal process that works towards a closed presentation (family and friends only).

Students of this class will also be given access to dress rehearsal seats for Gateway’s Holiday musical, and short talks by theatre professionals throughout the year.

Ages 11-18
September 9, 2025 – April 14, 2026 | Tuesdays, 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Early Bird Price: $849 (Available until March 31, 2025)

Musical Theatre Performance

Musical Theatre Performance is an auditioned class for students aged 11-18 that balances our process-focused approach with an added goal of public performance.

The first half of the year is dedicated to ensemble and skill-building, as students are introduced to the Presentation material; the second half of the year focuses on rehearsal towards the students’ year-end presentation.

To provide a more robust performance experience, production elements such as costumes, props and lights will be included in the year-end presentation. The class will have a tech rehearsal with these production elements. Up to three public performances will showcase the presentation in April 2026.

Registration to this class is by audition only.
