FROM DONNA YAMAMOTO

I hope that Otosan will touch your heart as it has touched mine, and that it will remind you of the importance of connection, understanding and love in our lives.

お父さん (Otōsan) is a Japanese word that means dad, father, or papa. I dedicate this production to my papa, who I miss dearly and will always hold a special place in my heart.

The collaboration with the talented writing team of Shizuka Kai, Randi Edmundson, and Jess Amy Shead, as well as the dedicated creative team that has been involved in this project since 2019 has truly been a blessing. Their creativity, passion, and hard work have brought Otosan to life in ways that make me so proud. We take a magical trip to the North and meet up with creatures big and small. I can’t wait until you experience this journey with little Shizu and Otosan.

Kudos to all the puppeteers: June, Shiz, Randi and Lisa. I am grateful for their artistry and bringing the characters to life. These artists are an integral part of telling this story of connection and reveal the yearning of being understood and being seen.

Thank you for joining us for this journey, and I hope you enjoy the magic and wonder of Otosan.
